So, here’s my first blog post! This post is in response to a request for information about how to find work as a freelance proofreader. Since my background is in proofreading and I currently freelance, I’ve put together a brief collection of links to useful articles and sites I discovered when I initially began considering freelancing (all links open in new tabs).
- The Proofreading Agency is a UK company but it does have helpful information for people outside the UK as well, including this page: Useful Links for Proofreaders
- Online Writing Jobs has extensive freelance listings including a proofreading section. It’s a US site and also contains a wealth of advice.
- Work at Home.com contains excellent articles, such as this one: Four Mistakes a New Proofreader Should Avoid
- The Writing World site itself is huge and has a section on getting paid and dealing with scammers.
- Proofreaders’ Marks and Proofreading Symbols is a handy one-page reference guide.
I hope this information will be helpful, and do let me know if there’s anything I missed out or if you require some additional pointers. Best of luck!
